This suite of original music composed for ‘Virtual Orchestra’ is inspired by the fascinating collection of ships’ bells that have been recovered over the years by Scarborough Sub Aqua Club. There are many hundreds of vessels and ships lying on the seabed all along the East Coast, ranging from barques, brigantines and colliers wrecked during the ferocious storms of the late 1800s to more recent trawlers, cruisers and U boats lost in action during the first and second world wars. Using a combination of traditional orchestral techniques with contemporary sampling and virtual modelling technology the compositions in this collection are gentle and epic in equal measure.

This performance will feature Mezzo Soprano, Maisie Atkinson

This score is dedicated to the ongoing underwater explorations of the SSAC and in particular to the memory of wreck hunter, filmmaker and conservationist Andy Jackson, a founding member of the Northstar RIB crew who discovered and documented many wrecks whilst demonstrating great compassion for the lives lost and a deep respect for the beautiful marine environment in which they lie.
