Chris Hall

Chris is Vice President, Field Officer and a Trustee of Scarborough Archaeological and Historical Society.

Chris is Vice President, Field Officer and a Trustee of Scarborough Archaeological and Historical Society. He grew up in Great Ayton and studied Geography at Durham University specialising in historical geography – this was more akin to what we now call landscape archaeology.

He joined Scarborough Archaeological and Historical Society in 1976 and soon was a Committee member and involved in archaeological excavations in and around Scarborough. In December 1986, together with Trevor Pearson he started what would be a nearly thirty-year campaign of urban excavations in Scarborough Old Town.

Independently of the Society he has excavated with the late Prof Philip Rahtz; Blaise Vyner; University of York and York Archaeological Trust.
